Exploring the California Sky: Top 5 Airports to fly from SBP

Add these to your Bucket List:

1. Catalina Island (AVX)

Who wouldn’t want to land on the "Airport in the Sky?"

Catalina island is many pilot's dream destination.

Fly through the Bravo airspace, over the ocean, and onto this magical island off the coast of Los Angeles.

Take the shuttle down to the historic town of Avalon, or grab a bite at the airport cafe and gift shop.

Arrive early in the day, as the airport closes at sunset!

2. Columbia (O22)

Explore an old gold mining town in the Foothills of Yosemite.

Columbia has an awesome Fly-in Camping area with bathrooms, showers, and firepits!

There is some good food spots in town, as well as fuel at the airport.

I personally liked the old pizza parlor in town. The town is a 15 minute walk from the fly-in camping area.

3. Kern Valley (L05)

In the foothills of the Sierras, there is a small air strip near Kern River and a shimmering mountain lake.

Fly over Bakersfield area and follow the river-cut canyon to find a little airport with a cute restaurant in walking distance.

The camping sites are on grass, and you can enjoy a river to go fishing or to dip your feet in after the long flight!

4. New Cuyama (L88)

Cool small-town airport to fly-in for lunch.

You can walk to town from the airfield and have a farm-to-table lunch at the Buckhorn.

They also have glamping sites for rent nearby.

5. Camarillo (CMA)

The Waypoint Cafe at this airport is best-in-class for AMAZING food.

Fly in, park on the ramp, and walk right on over to the restaurant right on the airfield.

They focus on breakfast and lunch and close at 3pm.

Arrive early, because the lines get long! thewaypointcafe.com
